Financial Aid / Grants

All students who wish to be considered for any financial aid must first complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). These applications are available in the Financial Aid Office. Completed forms are to be returned to a Financial Aid Advisor who will then transmit applications by computer. It takes approximately five days for the college to receive the ISIR, the student aid report that advises the school of the amount of student aid a student will receive from the Federal Government.

Financial aid is available to all eligible students on the basis of financial need. An advisor will meet with you and review the various options available and counsel you accordingly. The following grants and loans are administered by NYCI:

  • Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)
TAP grants are available to a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen who has also resided in New York State for at least one year and is enrolled for 12 credits in a semester or 8 credits in a trimester and is not in default of any government guaranteed student loan.
  • Federal Pell Grant
U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens who have not received a Bachelor's degree and are enrolled for a minimum of three credits are eligible for a grant based on financial need as determined by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Federal Family Education Loan Programs
Federal Stafford Loans (subsidized and unsubsidized), as well as Federal Parent Loans for Undergraduates (FPLUS), are available to qualified students.

Veterans Benefits

Veterans of the Armed Services who are eligible for benefits and children of deceased veterans pay fees and tuition as do all other students. On presentation of authorization from the Veterans Administration, the College will certify their enrollment.

On this basis, the government pays allowances directly to the veteran or children of deceased veterans. Information and certification of VA benefits may be obtained at the Financial Aid Office. Veterans who served in active duty for three years or more or two years active duty plus four years in the Selected Reserve or National Guard will receive the following awards:

  • Fulltime - (12 Credits) - $985 per month for 36 months
  • 3/4 time - (8 Credits) - $739 per month for 36 months
  • 1/2 time - (6 Credits) - $493 per month for 36 months

Those who enlisted and served for less than three years will receive less than the amounts listed above. For more information, please contact the Financial Aid Office at (212)-962-0002.

Vocational Rehabilitation

Eligibility for vocational rehabilitation services is based upon the presence of physical or mental disability, which for the individual constitutes or results in a substantial handicap to employment and the reasonable expectations that these services may benefit the individual in terms of employability.
